| Description | The old aardvark submission form (item #6) had a "reference number" field. Since there is no such field in Aardvark Mark III, I have added the contents of that field in bugs that I have been converting from Classic Aardvark xcubug3.txt into a: Submitter tag "xxx" (where xxx is the submitter supplied refernce number) line in the first Note associated with the Aardvark Mark III bug. Do we want a "Reference Number" field in Aardvark Mark III? | ||||

I purposely left the "reference number" field out. As I recall, that field was to help someone submitting a bunch of aardvarks find/refer to them in the absence of knowing what the aardvark number was (at the time this number may have shown up much later). Now a submitter can search by User (his own ID or others'), bug number (which they get at the moment of reporting, so they can keep track) or other ways, such that I do not believe that this is needed for new bugs. |

I personally don't care if we add this field or not. However, I noted while I was converting some xcubug3.txt aardvark reports that some of the reference numbers looked suspiciously like bug report numbers associated with the submitter's internal bug tracking system. It doesn't seem that this information would be appropriate in the Summary, Description, or Desired Action fields; but I guess the submitter can add a Note containing this information after submitting the bug report. (Notes cannot be added when a bug report is being created, so this requires a two step submission process.) |
